Wyclef Jean detained and handcuffed in ‘another case of mistaken identity’

The Haitian artist, 47, was mistaken for a suspect in a robbery near the studio where he had been working on Tuesday. Jean documented the incident on Twitter and posted a video in which he can be seen standing in front of a police car with his hands behind his back.

“L.A., right now, coming from the studio,” Jean said. “Y’all see the police have handcuffs on me.

They just took off my Haitian bandanna. That’s what’s going on right now with Wyclef in L.A. right now. The L.A.P.D. have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing.”

CBS News reported that the Ready or Not rapper was stopped at a petrol station on Sunset Boulevard around 1am on Tuesday after reports that a person had a wallet stolen at gunpoint nearby.

Deputies said Jean’s vehicle matched the description the victim had given, but authorities later determined Jean was not the suspect.

Jean later posted a series of tweets in which he said he had been left “appalled” by the behaviour of the LAPD.
